Besides being a great way to get things off of my chest, and a vehicle to share stories about my kids, blogging has had some other surprising side effects.
First, it’s been really nice to see who is commenting. I end up keeping in touch with people I don’t get to talk to that much.
Then, last week, my friend Aaron was here from California and he pulled out the book he was reading and said “When I’m done with this, I will give it to you”. The book was The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. At first, I thought he was psychic. I don’t read a lot of science fiction, but this was a book I had been meaning to read. Then I remembered this. Not only did it make me feel good that he reads my blog, but I also got a free copy of a book that I really wanted to read.
The second unexpected bonus was found in my bathroom when we got back from the lake.
Gabe’s parents were here watching the squad when we were gone. When we got back: 1) Claudia could walk, 2) both kids had new shoes (which you have to fight Claudia to take off), 3) the kids had a new toy that looks like a boom box style radio that teaches them phonics, which they love, and 4) we had two new toilet seat covers.
I knew our toilet seat covers were kind of beat up, but I really didn’t think about it that much. And as strange a gift as it is, I really like having new ones. Thanks guys!
