Wait until they’re older. Then they’ll start telling you they’re 6-and-three-quarters years old. Or whatever.
I was just thinking about this yesterday. I’ve been saying my oldest is 3. I had to count the months. He’s at 40 months. (Which, duh, sounds really stupid to say.) Hmm. Do I stick with 3? Or can I move on to 3-1/2? Or do I have to wait two more months for that?
Right now I’m just saying 2 in May, or almost 2. I always feel like a jerk saying “21 months” or “22 Months” or whatever they are.
Plus, I’m bad at math, so…
Just think if we did that for our pets too…
“My dog is 588 months old (that’s 84 months in people years).”
Actually, if you really want to top it, tell someone how old they are in days. The look on someones face would be FUNNY!
I’ll do the math for you if necessary.
I’m going to have to buy another calculator.
I’ve been saying 3 and 1 at the end of March. I really think 2 is the months referal cutoff.
Here here! I whole-heartedly agree. It’s useful for a year or so, but after that what good is it? And I don’t carry an abacus with me everywhere I go…

I knew I shoulda paid more attention in my math classes back when I was in school. My momma always said it would come back to bite me.
I started with “almost”or “about” and the age (or age “and a half”) right about the time they turned 2. Actually, I often fudged the numbers before that with Joe, since by baby #3 you are too darned tired (and time is going way too fast) to keep track of how many months.
Mine are now “7 and a half” “almost 5″ and “almost 3″.
I have been so harrassed by my family lately, because I had my daughters month off by a month. Because calling your daughter 19 months when she is 18 months will harm her for life. She is one years old. Why is that so hard for people to understand. If they want to be specific, she is one and a half. I can’t believe someone would still be counting after two. Give me a break. Oh and since I’m de-lurking, great site.

That has always bugged me!
I stopped using months after the 15 months, then I went to year and a half and then used half-year increments until he was about 4.
If we kept using months I would be 511 months old. I don’t know which is more depressing, being 42 years or 511 months.
