Can somebody please explain to me what is so great about “American Idol”. I just don’t get it. I know a bazillion people watch it. If you are one of them, can you please tell me why?

I’m a lemming. I don’t have cable.

I would like to know the answer to this question too. Matt watches it and I have to leave the room.
Could it be because we’re singers?
March 30th, 2006 at 9:38 am, Lucinda Says:
I can’t watch it either. Except the beginning part with the people who sing like seals, but think they’re hot shit.

I’m sorry Sarah, I can’t help you. Honey Mustard watches it… I can’t stomach it… or any reality show for that matter.
If I knew what the allure was, I would have created my own reality show already and become a millionaire.

I’ll give ya a couple on why I watch.
1) It’s live music on TV.
2) It’s cheesy
3) It’s an actual competition without wiredness, unlike survivor or Fear Factor.
4) Paula Abdul being stupid.
5) Simon telling people the truth.
6) Young girls with cropped tops and tight sweaters.
7) I harbor secret wishes of owning a record label.
7) We all like watching people go from nobody to somebody. (See Mason, George).

Because my wife loves it and I don’t want to watch tv by myself in the other room.
I actually have enjoyed this season though and I have a favorite but she might not make it much longer. I’ll have to start calling to keep her safe.

I’ve got nothing…it’s a mystery to me, too. I don’t remember “Star Search” being this big…
By the way, I love the new graphics.

let’s see…usually by 8 pm i’m too tired to read, or do much else, so i start to watch television. it’s kind of fun to see people get ripped on by simon, and paula abdul gets loonier every year. that, and usually there is someone who is half decent that i root for and like to see their dreams come true. to be honest though – i don’t know why i watch it. it kind of sucks.

No idea myself. I hate it.

I watched seasons 1 and 3 but haven’t taken the bait this year. I kinda wanted to but I just don’t have time!

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!
I swear I thought I was the only person left in the world that did have Idol in my eyes….Everytime a friend posts about “AI Spoilers!” “Dish about AI” I just have to move on to another blog since I can’t comment…LOL
YAY, I’m not the only non-idoler! LOL

Sorry, I can’t help either. I was in an establishment on Tuesday night and as soon as it hit 7:00 they turned on AI. It was at that point that I could leave fast enough.
No one in my family or circle of friends watches it either. I watched part of one episode the first season and thought “there goes a 1/2 hour of my life that I will never get back.”
I just don’t get reality shows period. If you have to put them in the category of referring to them as ‘reality’, then they probably aren’t.

I am proud to say I have never watched an episode of american idol. I had it on for all of 10 minutes during one of their early out-take shows and have never tuned in since.

You bastard! That is my favorite show. How dare you make fun of it.
OK, reall, we watched the occasional early shows, for the humor. That’s it – the rest is too boring.

Ha ha I was thinking of posting this very same thought last night! We’re so connected. I can’t stand it! I only like the first episodes where they suck.

I love it, because it is a hoot.
It isn’t good music. It isn’t good singing.
It is a hoot.
I watch zero adult tv, but dammit when the NEW AIs start I commandeer the TV on those nights.
It is mindless fun.
Kind of like MST3K.

Our entire family watches this drek together. I know it’s crap, but the kids are all talkin’ about it at school and our oldest wanted to see what all the talk was about. So now we have a pool going much like we did for the superbowl. Did I just admit I am teaching my son how to gamble?
March 31st, 2006 at 7:14 pm, MrsFortune Says:
I watch it because quite honestly I have delusions that it could be me up there. I’m too old for the show and I can’t sing, but man, do I love to sing, and … you know, a girl can dream. It does kind of suck this year, but I am still hanging on every moment.

I like the bald Chris guy. Last year I liked Bo.
But Paula Abdul is cringe-worthy.

I don’t watch it either, but I think I’d avoid it anyway because that one judge is such a mean a-hole…I just want to slap him.

Personally, I never miss an opportunity to see a drugged up drunk celebrity on T.V. (Go Paula)! This may also explain my affection for Bill O’ Riley and Rush Limbaugh.
