I still wish Jack’s name was Holden.
Maybe one day I’ll get a new pet, and name it Holden.
I just have one thing to say: W. T. F.? A great number of those books are classics and based in the history of this country. People need to get their snooty little noses out of their tightly wrenched big asses. I read a good deal of those books in Lit classes from Jr. High through college. Some others I read for the sheer joy. (Of course, that was before children, but one day, I will get to read something besides “Goodnight Moon” or Dr. Seuss.) These books are a part of us, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Ya, know. When somebody tells me I can’t do something, especially something that questions my basic rights and intelligence, like censorship, it only makes me want to do that particular thing that much more!
HOLY!!! Do you know how many of those books I’ve read and loved and how many are on my list of books I want to read (or read again!)?!
I have very strong words (mainly name calling) to those who support this type of censorship. I am an intelligent, educated woman and a strong, NO, diehard believer in freedom of speech. I will read and think and say what I want. Who gives anyone the right to try to take that right away from me/us?

I will stop now before I go into a whole long drawn out rant! You get my point.
Funny how most of thost were on my required READING list in High School. I’ve read and enjoyed most of them. Censorship sucks it.
I could rant forever but the bottom line is that people who can think for themselves scare other people.
Also – Queen – if you get a pet named Holden, be sure to get it a “People Hunting Hat” (ooooo, I’m the FBI’s list now, I quote CATCHER IN THE RYE)….

It always interests me that books that get banned are usually one’s that make a person think.

OMG! I read banned books too.
Reading To Kill a Mockingbird right now and it is brilliant. I love banned books!
I love the smell of burning books in the morning. Smells like ignorance.
Since To Kill A Mockingbird was mentioned I figured I would add that my oldest boy is named Atticus. His middle name is Lennon, as in John, I’m sure they would love to ban him too. John Lennon that is, not my kid. Not yet.
I’ve read almost all of the books listed in that link. Does that mean I’m dangerous? Damn right.
The only book I’ve ever wanted to burn? This one. (And I read it.)
One time I read a Danielle Steel book (“Secrets”?) and it was so bad that I threw it in the garbage can after I finished it.
And it wasn’t my book.
So I got it out of the trash and gave it back. But it was stupid enough to burn.
Oh my god, that list makes me so very sad. WTF!? Heart of Darkness? The Grapes of Wrath? For Whom the Bell Tolls??
Most of those books I read in high school, too. The only book that I remember my high school banning was The Chocolate War because a character is caught masturbating.
Ha. I did this too. Some of the books that are on the list are my all time favorite books. I just don’t get it. If you don’t like it, don’t read it, you know? People are loony.
I do find it amusing that most of those were required reading in high school.
Don’t get me started on Freedom of Speech. I already have a migraine and don’t want it to get worse. You know? Sometimes? I really hate people.
Did you rip that “I Read Banned Books” from someplace or did you make it? ‘Cuz I want one.
Banned books? No way! That is so crazy! I have to check this out!! Has Hitler risen from the dead??
