I give up.surrender_white_flag

I’ve had the flu for over two weeks. I’ve coughed so hard that I pulled enough muscles in my side that it actually hurts to breathe.

I’m going to the doctor. I know – it is weak to go to the doctor for the flu, but I have no choice. I can no longer function as a parent. I can’t pick the kids up, every day I cough so hard that I puke, it hurts to do laundry – hell, it hurts to sit.

So yeah, flu, you win.

Maybe the doctor will give me crazy pain killers and then I can be funny again, or at least jacked up enough so that you can laugh AT me. I’m not proud.

  1. Get well soon! I hope the doctor can give you something to cure this yucky flu.

  2. Bet he tells you that you have way more than the flu. I thought I had a cold, but after three weeks, I finally went in…and I had like three separate things that require meds. It’s not weak to go, especially after so long. It’s smart.

    Get better soon.

  3. That sounds worse than the flu. I hope you get better soon.

  4. sarah do you think it might be pneumonia? john caught pneumonia this winter and felt like you are describing. get some pain meds. TOTALLY

  5. Hope you feel better soon. By the way, even sick, you’re still funny. :)

    Take care of yourself!

  6. I knocked a rib out of wack once hacking like that… :-( Feel well soon.

  7. The flu’s no hangnail woman! It can lead to something more serious, like pneumonia, so you should definitely not feel weak for going to the doctor! Get well soon!

  8. Good call. Me thinks your doc will have a plan. I was at mine for my annual physical last week and the nurse said 90% of the patients that week were ‘flu-like symptom’ folks. That would explain all the coughed up lungs on the floor of the waiting room. :)

  9. If it’s the flu, chances are he won’t be able to help you. But since it has been going on for over two weeks now, it is a good idea to visit ye olde doctor.

  10. Ok, call me strange but I am one of those people who go in right away. You need to go, you obviously have something that is getting out of control. I went in for the flu right away and they gave me Tamiflu which totally alleviated the symptoms and helped me recover quickly. I was sooo grateful. But you have to go in right away for that. Sorry you have been sick for so long, but hopefully you will get some relief!!! Sounds like pneumonia or an infection of some type.

  11. Ouch. Get well soon.

  12. Man that sucks. Yes! By all means you should go see a doctor! Hope you feel better soon!

  13. You need to go in. The flu can turn into pneumonia if it settles in your chest.

Get better soon. I’m going to have a 2 year old tantrum if you can’t come to my party on Saturday.

And how skinny are you now?

  14. The flu is getting everyone…yuck! Hope tht you’re better soon!

  15. Oh! Oh! *hand waving furiously in air* I have it too. And I can’t breathe either. I’ve not kept any food down for 8 days, what with all the coughing and puking. And I went to the ER on Saturday because I was coughing up blood – hello, pneumonia, anyone? Turns out it was just irritation of my throat & lungs from all the coughing so I got sent home. The worst part is that I cannot lie down without a post-nasal drip triggering my gag reflex so I puke and puke. I’ve been sitting bolt upright in a corner leaning on a wall for the last three nights to sleep. Awesome. My point in this long-drawn out list of misery? You’re not alone – and I think there is light at the end of the tunnel.

(Aside: it’s nice to meet someone else that coughs and then pukes. People always tell me that there’s something wrong with me and that I’m weird. Now I know I’m not alone.)

  16. You’re still funny, but if you want to be all hopped up and funny too, more power to you. The doctor’s a good idea, and someone should bring over some soup or something. Since I’m in California, I volunteer Steve. (Thanks, Steve. You’re so thoughtful. What a great guy, huh?)

  17. I’m about to call too.

Which one of us will call first?

  18. Last I checked, no one was standing around handing out “She a trooper because she didn’t go to the doctor” awards. Go get some meds and get yourself better!

  19. I’m so sorry. Let me know if you need anything.

  20. Definitely not weak. I had the flu about a month ago, and I tell you, I felt like I was dying.

  21. I guess I shouldn’t tell you that I had it for seven weeks, huh? Or that it turned into pneumonia…twice. Or that I got thrush too. Or that I had a freaking flu shot AND a pneumonia shot and, well, obviously that was a wasted effort!

I hope you get better soon. Get your doctor to give you the most outrageously high dose of antibiotics you can get… but I think it’s viral. I’m sorry. I’m really really sorry.

Did your tongue turn green yet? That was the best part of the whole illness!

  22. I never had the “coughing til you puke” thing until this year. A lady at work had it too. And we shared another unpleasant side effect as well. Peeing every time we coughed so hard that we puked.

  23. That SUCKS. I don’t think you’re weak at all. Is there any chance it could not be the flu?

  24. While I am not a doctor, I have a feeling you have moved past the flu and are onto bronchitis and/or pneumonia. Ihad bronchitis for several weeks around Christmas and I “graduated” to pneumonia because I waited 4 weeks to go to the doctor. I received cough syrup with codeine, and antibiotic AND I had to do albuterol breathign treatments every four hours for over a week. That’s how I shook it. And yes, peeing every time you cough totally sucks.

  25. I’m with Misfithausfrau, I think it is pneumonia too. Or maybe you have The Consumption. Either way, you need drugs and attention NOW.

Had I realized you were still like this, I would have put you in a gnome suit and driven you to the MD myself.

Maybe I should tell you that I think the gnome suit can be utilized at other times and not just when you are hammered.

  26. Sounds horrible. Take care of yourself, my friend.

    Hugs.

  27. Hope you’re feeling better soon. Man, I had a stomach thing yesterday that screwed with me royal. Seriously, you don’t even want to know. Really, stop asking. It’s just gross.

  28. Shoulda gone a long time ago. Delaying like this, letting it get such a grip on you for so long – that’s the sort of thing only husbands do.

  29. I have the flu too. My family pretty much made me go after having the symptoms for a week. I got some cough syrup with a pain killer in it, but it sucks. It doesn’t work that well. Anyhow, I hope you feel better soon.

  30. I hope you get some kick ass drugs. I’m sorry you’re so sick and for so long. Yeah for the doctor!!!

  31. Christ, you sound like my husband. “It’s weak to go to the doctor…”

Get thee to the doctor, woman! Get thee good drugs!
