I have the original G1 and love it. Have had it since 2001! Recently switched to a SD850 for its smaller size and after 7 years and a gazillion pictures the battery in my G1 was going bad. For point and shoots, I'd stick with Canon.

I'm a Nikon girl myself and know nothing about Canon. I also am not a big fan of point & shoots. But I would highly recommend a Nikon D80 or D40 if you don't mind something a little bigger. You get used to the size and those are really light compared to the ones I shoot with!

I have two Canons -- a tiny Powershot, and a Rebel XSi. They're both great! Ask somebody to take photos for you & share...

I have a G7 (the G9's predecessor), and I love, love, love it. It takes really good pictures, despite my limited skill.

I have a cannon EOS Rebel and I love it BUT it is pricey. (I think mine came from Costco and was around 7-800$) All of the auto functions are awesome and you can grab it and go-no learning a bunch of stuff for the auto functions. However it can do a bunch of other stuff that I have yet to learn about. It is heavy and bulky-not the kind of camera that you can drop in your purse and go. All of that said I get some GREAT shots-including my husband landing a marlin yesterday.Yee Haw!

I have a KonicaMinolta, but I think someone stepped on it during our last vacation, and it did some weird shaky stuff for a while. Other than that, I love it.
