Ever since I was a young child I have been under the impression that the desert was a dry place. A place where people had to use a lot of lotion and make sure that they were drinking enough water.
I don’t have the research in front of me, but I believe that you have to come in below a certain amount of rainfall annually.
There is a strong possibility that Las Vegas got more rain than that yesterday.
The streets were flooded.
I asked our cab driver how unusual it was for them to get this kind of weather and he said that it was pretty common in the winter.
This is not what I was expecting from a city that has the reputation of being smack in the middle of a dessert.
And while I am on this subject I would like to add that when I was in Albuquerque, New Mexico a couple of months ago it poured. There was flooding there too.
The Albuquerque people said that rain like that was normal in the Summer.
What the hell, desert? Is this some sort of Global Moistening?
It isn’t as if I was actually anticipating cacti and rattlesnakes. I just thought that there would be far less precipitation.
To make a long story short (ish) I no longer believe in deserts. In fact, I call shenanigans on deserts.
