September 30, 2009 | Who are the People in Your Neighborhood?
From my new neighbor:

1) What is a really good fall recipe?
2) What is your favorite sports team?
3) What should I read next?
4) How do I get my kids to eat fish?

In kindergarten they have a time at the end of the day where each student can share their thoughts if he or she is so inclined.
On Friday, Claudia wanted to share a thought with her class.
She told the class that when she was in Florida we went to Busch Gardens and it was “Africa Hot”.
I wonder how her teachers reacted to that one? I wonder if they even got the joke.
Unless my daughter has been secretly reading Neil Simon plays in her free time even she doesn’t get her references.

The Goon Squad has this thing at their school that is called “Star of the Week”. Each kindergartner gets a turn and when it is their week they make a poster of the things that they like and it gets hung on the wall all week and at some point the child gets to tell the whole class about their display.
Claudia is the star of next week.
We went to the craft store to get supplies this morning. I figured since we were already there we would get the stuff for both of the kids because Ian will be star of the week at the end of October. Why not just get his poster board too?
Our craft store is one of those huge places that has an entire section dedicated to poster board so there were many shades to choose from. I asked the kids which color each of them wanted.
Claudia (predictibly) chose the pinkest pink that ever pinked. It is so bright that I am still seeing spots. It is what safety orange would be if it was pink.
Then Ian said:
I want dark red – the color of death.
Those were his exact words.
His father would probably say something like “You can take the boy out of Tampa…” but I would say:
Metal.

Mommy, she said. My teacher said I was a wonderful wine weader. That is an alliteration!
