I hope you grow a boatload of peppers and tomatoes for Susan.

  2. JessicaAPISS says:

Crazy weird, but Susan and I were just talking a couple weeks ago about how when we were kids the Weekly Reader sent some kids’ tomato seeds into space. Spacey!

Sure Susan will love some fajitas this summer courtesy the Goon Squad.

that sounds super sweet, I wish your friend the best of luck.

that pic of Claudia is priceless! we are all into the home gardening here in the mountains, we became damn hippies. but at least if the apocalypse happens I will have some veggies right?

  4. Tammy says:

Wow, Claudia is so much like you. Did she punch him? I’m having snake hand flashbacks.

  5. Great pics! We are planting our tomatoes and other herbs this weekend!
Also, an FYI about deer….if you keep the hair clippings from the next time you cut your kids or your own or a pet’s hair and sprinkle it on the ground around the plants it deters the deer. They smell the hair and think predators are around.

Agriculture is definitely science! Well done! Fresh tomatoes always taste better than store-bought – especially if you add a little fresh basil and balsamic vinegar!

Nothing happier than dirty kids! Er .. some kids. Love that pic of your daughter!

LOVE this! That photo of Claudia crying. Oh, my God, that could have happened at my house. (And likely has.)

I think Ian might just be right.

Thanks so much for taking part in the science fair!

Well, you’re close: your tomatoes and peppers WILL be infinitely better than anything you can buy. But save money? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.(And if you’re new to gardening, you’ll soon find out why I’m laughing.)

Gardening can be expensive, damn it…BUT you are creating your own food, food whose origins you know completely. You are learning a new skill, and sharing that with your children. And you will not believe how intense the “OMG I’m going to pee my pants” feeling gets when that first tomato starts to turn vaguely pink….and you will not believe how delicious it will be on the day when it is finally red and you pull it off the plant to eat it right there in the garden. Congratulations.

  11. Laurie says:

Wow you make everybody work hard out there in that yard until they cry.

When will it end? Oh, right, never, because you have a garden now. ;)

  12. Best wishes to Susan…and to your garden.
