That's right. You heard me.

I live in the Washington DC Metro Area with my husband, six year old boy/girl twins (aka The Goon Squad) and two loud cats. [Read More …]

I Am Woman by Helen Reddy
Black Velvet by Alannah Miles.
I should do I Am Woman, next time
I always like Knockn’ on Heaven’s Door, but like Clapton, not GnR. Big Hit for me in Key West years back. Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is good too. Song you can talk through.
I’ll sing just about anything once I’ve had enough beer.
Oooh! I go out for karaoke pretty much every weekend! The woman who runs it at one of the bars that we frequent keeps a notebook with her where she keeps the regular singers’ selections so we don’t have to look things up every week. My list includes My Immortal by Evanescence, Jolene by Dolly Parton, Alone and All I Wanna Do by Heart, Angel of the Morning by Juice Newton, Desperado by The Eagles, and More Than Words by Extreme, along with a few others depending on my mood and health that week
“Crocodile Rock” by Elton John
And I totally belt the shit out of those “la-la-la-la”s…
My go-to is Baby Got Back by Sir Mix A Lot
Anything by Elvis.
I’ve always been particular to Rick Astley.
@LiLu So you can Rickroll the entire bar at once?
Nicely played.
“creep” or “fake plastic trees” by radiohead since no one EVER has “opiate”
I have sung three songs at karaoke in my lifetime. “Reunited” by Peaches and Herb – one of my favorite songs of all time – with some guy I’d just met so it was really just “United,” “Wild Thing” which is one of those classics I hate but it was one of those “let’s get a group of girls up there to yell out the words to a song and call it singing,” and “Islands In the Stream” with my friend Steven when I was trashed on my birthday, because if there’s one thing I need on my birthday it’s a Kenny and Dolly duet. That’s all. Nothing consistent. I have terrible anxiety about singing in front of people or doing anything that causes a group of people to look at me and/or comment on what I’m doing.
I used to have to go out with a particular ex whose ass you already want to kick and watch him sing “Call and Answer” by Barenaked Ladies like it was a real concert. I bet you dislike him even more now.
Oh, and harmonicas FTMFW.
(And finally? I forgot what pronouns were called this morning and I was totally sober, so forgetting a Kenny G song is not so bad.)
My husband and I always sing Love Shack together. I love singing old Bon Jovi. The crowd eats up that shit.
Fat Bottom Girls. With my equally bootylicious best friend. Drunk out of our minds. Oops! Best friend fell down while shaking said booty. Now we can never return to our local. Sigh.
Seriously though, it`s a fun one, under the right circumstances.
I do “Criminal” by Fiona Apple. I’m like “the girl who does Criminal” now. It just suits my voice. I wish there were more like it.
You should be proud that you can’t recall any Kenny G songs without looking them up. You could maybe do a Phil Collins song. It’s impossible for anyone who grew up in the 80′s not to know every single word of every single one of his songs, even if you don’t like them. They’re like malware.
Well, first of all, if you’d told me three weeks ago that I would EVER karaoke, I’d have flat out called you a liar. BUT, I would have then had to apologize because we gave my mom a karaoke machine for her 70th birthday and it actually didn’t take that long for them to convince me to give it a try — or that many beers, surprisingly. My go-to song right now is “I’m a Believer” by the Monkees (or The Shrek Song as my kids call it). But I’m thinking about trying Loretta’s “Don’t Come Home A Drinkin’ (with Lovin’ on Your Mind) next time I’m over there.
Last time I sang karaoke it was “When God-fearin’ Women Get the Blues” by Martina McBride. But usually it’s “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” by Shania. No, I’m not normally a big country fan, but I those are so fun to sing.
Careless Whisper by Wham
Oh, man. I really like Stay by Lisa Loeb, Crazy on You by Heart, and Brandy by Looking Glass, although I’m working on a few numbers for BlogHer.
Someday, I want to sing the exact same song as some unsuspecting patron immediately after they sing it.
Paradise City’s good, but only…ONLY…if the mic is attached to a cord, enabling you to do the Axl Rose skip-in-place-while-twirling-the-mic thing.
It’s totally cheating, but I always pick something I already know from one of my bands. I tend to go for Led Zeppelin, AC/DC or something like that.
I was just at a training offsite last night and we were going crazy with the karaoke. “Careless Whisper” was one of the top hits of the evening.
You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin.
My friend rocks Proud Mary by Tina Turner.
I’ve always thought Me and My Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin would be a good one.
rock the house with: living on a prayer – b.j.
take it down a notch with: every rose has its thorn – poison
amaze everyone with my vocal talent but mostly enthusiasm: delta dawn – helen reddy
I generally go with Baby One More Time, The Humpty Dance, or Straight Up (Paula Abdul). The thing with choosing songs like these is you have to know them well and ROCK them, and I must confess, I really do.
i’m proud to say i have only done that once in my life, to *it’s my life’ by no doubt. it was only to save a friend. i’m always willing to take one for the team.
