  1. I wouldn’t have thought of Do They Know It’s Christmas, but I adore that song. And that video just made my morning – I wasn’t sure if I was correctly recognizing people because of how young they look (and the astoundingly impressive 80s outfits).

    1. Yes
    2. This year our tree has a Santa ornament hanging from the very top in such a way that it looks like he’s flying through the air. I think my 8 year old daughter did it. As a result, we didn’t put our typical angel up there.
    3. I tend to stick with just egg nog, but I do love some peppermint schnapps in my hot chocolate.
    4. Maybe Do You Hear What I Hear
    5. Hard to say, I’m sure there are some that annoy me but I can’t think of any of the top of my head.

  2. Molly Chase says:

    1. Yes, but not in a happy-birthday-Jesus kind of a way. We open presents and eat a lot of things.

    2. An angel, but it’s my husband’s. I always had a star growing up.

    3. Whiskey, minus the raw eggs and milk.

    4. Oh Holy Night, or Sufjan Stevens’ version of “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” For a nonsecular celebrator of Christmas, I love me some Sufjan Stevens Christmas album.

    5. That Chipmunks atrocity. I’d rather listen to a train full of puppies crash into a daycare.

  3. 1. Yes.

    2. I haven’t had my own tree to decorate, but I’m thinking of going with something different than an angel or a star when I do.

    3. Don’t drink eggnog.

    4. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas by Gayla Peevey

    5. Madonna’s version of Santa Baby (give me Eartha Kitt’s version any day)

  4. 1) Yes
    2) Yes. This year is a star because the tree is too close to the heater vent and it blew our banana-leaf angel off. 😐
    3) Yes, please, I will have another, thank you.
    4) A Fairytale of New York by the Pogues with Kirsty McColl
    5) Oh probably that Tennessee Christmas one by Mississippi or Alabama or whatever band that is. Ugh.

  5. 1) This does not involve presents or a tree or dinner. I go to the beach and tell everyone else at the beach “Merry Christmas!”
1b) I will celebrate anything I’m invited to that involves food, fun, music or dancing.
    2) No tree. There’s just no room for one.
    3) Eggnog is kind of gross, so I just make a nice gin and tonic.
    4) Oh night divine. That bit in Messiah about “Wonderful! Counselor! Mighty God!” is pretty fun, too.
    5) I have said it about 1000 times, but Stevie Nicks singing “Silent Night.” Just horrible. But for a song in general? Hm. Carol of the Bells is pretty deadly.

  6. 1) Yes.

    2) Star.

    3) Rum.

    4) “Little Drummer Boy” by David Bowie and Bing Crosby

    5) “Christmas Don’t Be Late” by Alvin and the Chipmunks… ugh!

  7. 1. No. I mean, sorta. Well, I used to. I still kind of do. It’s complicated and exhausting.
    1a. Hannukah, more or less.
    2. In the brief period of time that I had my own tree, a star.
    3. Rum, if I had to choose, but I actually just go with nutmeg.
    4. Ooh, hard one. I do love “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming” if we’re talking choral pieces. (Is the “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl technically a Christmas song? I love me some antiphonal men’s choirs.) But for pop tunes, I have to go with “Elf’s Lament” by Barenaked Ladies.
    5. OH HOLY HELL do I hate that Band Aid song. Sorry. Have always, will always hate it. Depressing and condescending, all at once. And why are people always smiling when they sing the line about “the clanging chimes of doom?” Close second place to that mother effing Mariah Carey crap. I worked at the Gap one Christmas and wanted to stab my own ears.

  8. 1) Do you celebrate Christmas? I do!
1b) If not, what do you celebrate at this time of year?
    2) Do you put an angel or a star on top of your tree? It is the angel we always had on the tree growing up. She’s seen better days but I luff her.
    3) In your eggnog: whiskey or rum? Just rum with some ginger ale. :)
    4) What is your favorite Christmas carol? O Holy Night – but ONLY the Josh Groban version. Otherwise, I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.
    5) What is your least favorite Christmas carol? The fucking Christmas Shoes. UGH. Pencil in my ear please!

Also, you should check out the Monster Ballad people’s Christmas Album. Pure hair metal gold. LOL

  9. 1. Yes.
    2. Yes. It was my grandmothers I believe.
    3. My egg nog stays at the store. I can’t stand that shit.
    4. I’ll be home for Christmas.
    5. Anything sung by a chipmunk and that Grandma got run over song. I wish that one would die in a fire.

I hope you guys had a good Christmas.

  10. 1) yes
    1b) we also celebrate channukah
    hence chrannukah, bitches!!
    2) we have a star of david on the tree. no lie.
    3) bourbon, for sure, but it’s bourbon milk, not egg nog
    4) oh, holy night in french, so minuit chrétien
    5) i have no idea what my least favorite would be. i’m sure i’ll come up with something by next christmas.

  11. 1. Yes.

    2. A star.

    3. A Sam Adams Winter Lager is the most seasonal I’ll go with my drinks.

    4. Tochter Zion, preferably played by a brass ensemble. I’m not sure what the English name is.

    5. Every Year Again, even though my family sings this under the tree before opening presents every year. I still like it ok, it’s just my least favorite.

  12. smart aleck says:

    1) Yes, I celebrate Christmas, but without the church visit (for me, it’s about getting family together, no matter how long of a drive)

    2) My tree is in storage because our place is too small, but in the past I have put either a star or a really large bow at the top.

    3) Eggnog plain, or in my coffee.

    4) The Red Baron Christmas song, or Do They Know It’s Christmas

    5) King Wenceslas is my least favorite ever.

  13. 1) Yes

    2) Neither, we put three bows on it this year. I have a fancy ‘tree in a box’ kit with ornaments flowers and ribbon. I get all snippy about how its done, so I have a reminder for next year to let my girls put all the ornaments on and do whatever they want with it.

    3) Plain I guess, although I’d try rum.

    4) Hark, the Herald Angels Sing

    5) I dunno, all the ones they play in the stores before Thanksgiving. Those.

  14. Love the forward/back arrows and skull backdrop!

    2) Do you put an angel or a star on top of your tree? Star, circa 2001 Walmart

    3) In your eggnog: whiskey or rum? depends on the sweetness of the eggnog. I did rum this year.

    5) What is your least favorite Christmas carol? Christmas Shoes
