The other night we went out to a surprise party at a karaoke bar. Admittedly it has been a while since I have gone karaoking (Shut up. It’s a word.) but there was something very unusual about one of the participants.
He brought his harmonica, and he played it. And played it. And played it. You would be shocked how many songs in the karaoke catalog have harmonica parts. Clearly this kid had done his homework.
Granted, this guy was quite good at the harmonica.
I think that he may have chosen the wrong medium.
Have any of you ever seen this before? I’ve never seen anyone bring any instrument to karaoke, but I am considering learning the soprano sax so that I can bust out some mad Kenny G the next time. Fucking “Songbird” for the win.
I totally had to look that up. Three minutes ago I could not name one single Kenny G song.
Where was I going with that. I have no idea. Let’s just go with free association.
While I was drunk at the bar with a bunch of my husband’s friends from work, I was at a loss. What do you sing that won’t embarrass your husband in front of his colleagues? So I tweeted it out for advice. I forgot to keep checking back for answers and I ended up singing “Paradise By the Dashboard Light” with a gentleman I just met and works with my spouse which is always comfortable for everyone. I got many great suggestions, Son of a Preacher Man, Kung Fu Fighting, Copacabana, but one suggestion, one brilliant suggestion blew my mind.
