22 Minutes

22 minutes.

That is how long it took from the time we walked in the front door today until BOTH children opened the gifts they made for their parents for Christmas at school.

The each unwrapped the present that they themselves had gift wrapped not three hours earlier.

Then they lied to me - Oh no! they said We made these for you for your birthday.

Really? Then how come the wrapping paper you left all over the floor says “Merry Christmas, Mommy and Daddy?

1) Totally busted.

2) Now they have to buy us Christmas presents.

Suckers.

3) They are forgiven since these are so cute.

4) Somebody is going to have to clean up all of this wrapping paper.

I Say It’s My Birthday

Hey remember how I went to Chuck E. Cheese’s for my anniversary dinner?

Guess what I get to do for my birthday?sarah_birthday_cake

I get to co-op in Claudia’s preschool class! Aren’t I the luckiest girl in the whole wide world?

(Remind sometime me to tell you the story of how I baked cookies for her class for my birthday and ended up throwing them all away after they were compromised by little hands that don’t always remember to wash themselves after a trip to the bathroom. Wait. Never mind. That was the whole story.)

So anyway, last year for my birthday I asked that you click one of my ads in lieu of buying me a birthday present.

This year (while you should always feel free to click my ads) I would like to to click a couple other things for me.

Like this, this, this and this. And don’t forget to tell Becky* happy birthday too. And Kate!*

Thanks. You guys are the best.

One Disadvantage of Working From Home

When I worked in an office never once did I have to get up from my desk to wipe someones butt.

Not once.

Perhaps I Let Him Watch Too Much Television

The kids and I were driving to the grocery store the other day.

Because seriously, that is pretty much all we do, but that really isn’t part of this story.

As we were passing the bus stop we saw one of the teachers from their preschool.

“Hey look guys!” I said “It is Mr. R.”

“What is he doing over there?” Claudia asked.

“He is waiting for the bus.”

“Why doesn’t he just drive?” Ian asked.

“Because he doesn’t have a car.” I told them.

“He could buy a car.” The boy informed me.

“Cars are really expensive.”

“Maybe he should take a taxi.” Ian suggested.

“Ian, taxis are really, really expensive. If Mr. R. took a taxi to work every day it would cost way more than buying a car.” I explained.

Ian thought about this for a while. Then he said “He should take the one where you answer questions.”

I took me a few minutes. Then it hit me.

“Are you talking about the Cash Cab?”

“Yes!” he said. “Mr. R. should take the Cash Cab!”cashcab1

Of course, I am paraphrasing his reply that time because I was laughing so hard that I was crying and it is a minor Christmas miracle that I didn’t wreck the car.

After I recovered I said “Buddy, I think the Cash Cab is only in New York.”

Now Ian wants to move to New York.

Not that I blame him. Getting to ride in the Cash Cab would be awesome!

And you know it.

I Am Going to be So Surprised

“Mommy,” he said “I made you something at school today.”

“Oh really?” I asked “What is it?”christmas-present-gift1

“I can’t tell you.” he replied. “It is a surprise. For Christmas. For Christmas I made you a picture frame. I made a picture frame with a picture of me in it. Teacher Lisa took pictures of all the kids at my school and we made picture frames for our parents for Christmas, but it is a secret.”

***

I wonder what he made for me?
